The Sam’s Club in San Marcos presented a $6,000 check to the American Cancer Society (ACS) last Friday. Sam’s Club employees raised the funds by participating in the ACS’s main fundraiser, the Relay for Life run.
Almost 100 employees either took part in fundraising before the event or participated in the run, which took place in October. The ACS uses the money for cancer research, cancer education and public services. The money operates locally through free patient services that wouldn’t otherwise be available.
Relay for Life takes place the third weekend of every October at San Marcos High School from 7 p.m-7 a.m. The overnight event is filled with games, contests and continuous walking around the track in honor of those who have battled cancer or known someone with the disease.
Organizers are looking for persons to serve as a volunteer or committee chair for the 2009 Relay for Life. Those interested may contact Janice Hopper, the 2009 Relay for Life chairperson, at (512) 469-3411 or Avi Rostorfer, the ACS Community Manager, at email@example.com.Email | Print
