As part of an ongoing wastewater construction project, Riverside Drive between Haynes and Cheatham Street in San Marcos will have one-way traffic eastbound for the next six weeks.
Construction crews will begin excavating the intersection of Riverside Drive and Cheatham Street for the project beginning the week of Jan. 12.
Construction has been ongoing at the intersection of Riverside and Haynes since early October. Crews will continue working in the south lane of the intersection of Riverside Drive and Haynes Street. The 300 block of Haynes will be closed to through traffic until approximately Feb. 27.
As of October, the city expected the wastewater project to be completed this month. Now, the completion is estimated for March.
The closures are part of the Riverside MKT Wastewater Interceptor Project extending from Aquarena Springs Drive. to the east side of Interstate-35. The project will replace a large lift station near Bobcat Stadium with a more efficient interceptor line to bring wastewater by gravity flow to the city’s main lift station east of I-35.
Traffic will be directed one-way eastbound on Riverside from Haynes to Cheatham into March. Westbound traffic will be diverted at Cheatham and Riverside north to McKinnon Street, west to Haynes, and south back to Riverside.
Residential traffic will be allowed access during the construction.
