Texas State student dies in shooting

San Marcos Police are investigating the shooting death of a 21-year-old Texas State student Wednesday night on East River Ridge Drive.

Jon Ryan Paysse of Tow, Texas, had just turned 21 on Jan. 4.

Paysse died after being airlifted to Brackenridge Hospital. The shooting occurred at the University Heights II Apartments on East River Ridge Drive in San Marcos, to which San Marcos police were called at 6:49 p.m. Wednesday night.

Howard Williams, chief of the San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) said no charges have been filed, nor are charged anticipated.

“At this point, we believe it was an accidental shooting,” Williams said. “Once our investigation is concluded, we will refer the case to the Hays County District Attorney’s office for presentation to a grand jury.”

No charges have been filed or are anticipated, Williams said.

Paysse suffered a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was transported by Air Evac to the hospital in Austin, where he was pronounced dead.

Paysse was a junior at Texas State.
