San Marcos man gets 40 years for sexual assault

Convicted of sexually assaulting two children, 31-year-old Gregory Anthony Rodriguez will serve up to 40 years in prison.

Judge Jack Robison of the 207th District Court sentenced the San Marcos resident Monday after a Hays County jury convicted him in November on 13 counts, including aggravated sexual assault of a child.

The jury assessed punishments with sentences ranging from 10 years to 30 years, including 30 years on each of the aggravated sexual assault counts, 20 years on two of the indecency counts and 10 years on each of the remaining counts. After reviewing the case, the court ordered some of the sentences to run consecutively.

Assistant District Attorney Cathy Compton represented the State of Texas in the case. San Marcos attorney Tom Garner represented Rodriguez.

District Attorey Sherri Tibbe said in November that state attorneys Compton and Larry Bloomquist pushed for a heavy sentence, given the specifics of the case. Garner asked the jury to punish his client with probation.
