Facing the nation’s seventh ranked team on the road Saturday afternoon, the Texas State women’s basketball team tried to bite off a big chunk. It didn’t go down very well.
The Bobcats suffered a 95-55 loss at Baylor, falling to 6-6 overall after their final non-conference game. The Bobcats will play their Southland Conference opener next Saturday afternoon (4 p.m.) at Texas-Arlington.
Baylor raced to a 20-10 lead after three straight Texas State turnovers kicked off a 10-2 run. The Bobcats hung within 26-16 with 6:36 left in the first half, but Baylor turned it up and held a decisive 50-22 lead at halftime.
Baylor dominated inside, holding a 28-10 advantage in points from the paint for the first half, during which it made 60 percent of its field goal tries. The Bobcats shot only 27 percent (eight of 30) in the first half.
Ashley Cole led Texas State with 14 points, followed by Gabriell Mattox with 11. Danielle Wilson led all scorers with 26 points for Baylor, which improved to 12-1 entering the Big 12 schedule.Email | Print
