San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Patty Shafer meets once a month for a luncheon with two student delegates from each campus: the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SAC). Over lunch, the students discuss issues with the superintendent, and she seeks their opinions.
On December 16, the SAC met in the library of the San Marcos High School for the annual meeting with the Child Nutrition Department. Associate Director Mike Boone and his staff conducted a food sampling of products under consideration for the next semester. In the past, Boone has been able to get honest feedback from the delegates and could gauge whether a recipe or product would be accepted by the student consumers.
Top picks of the day were the Orange Chicken with Rice from the Asian menu, the frozen fruit cups, and the fruit juice slushes. The student poll also determined that the favorite green vegetable at SMCISD cafeterias is green beans, although broccoli was a surprising second place.
