The San Marcos City Clerk’s Office will be honored December 11 as the recipient of the 2008 Five-Star Exemplary Local Registrar Vital Registration Award.Only four cities are receiving this award this year, and it is the first time for San Marcos to receive an “exemplary” distinction.
The award demonstrates outstanding achievement in providing services to the public for birth and death records.
Criteria to qualify for the award, given by the Texas Department of State Health Services, Vital Statistics Unit, include timeliness, innovation, training and assessment, and collaboration with physicians and state agencies.
City Clerk Sherry Mashburn is the Local Registrar, assisted by Margaret Salinas, Deputy Local Registrar, and Liz Trevino, Assistant Local Registrar.
Other members of the City Clerk’s office are cross-trained to aid in vital statistics. They include Shelley Goodwin, Deputy City Clerk, Cynthia Knox, Records Management Coordinator, and Gabriel Segura, Administrative Technician.
