City of San Marcos channel: Leaders officially open new pedestrian bridge


The new pedestrian bridge over the San Marcos River opened officially on Dec. 1 as city officials and community members cut the ribbon. The 52-ton, 195 foot long bridge links San Marcos Plaza to City Park and to new sidewalks along Hopkins Street. The bridge has opened in time for the huge crowds expected for Sights & Sounds of Christmas.  L-R front row are City Manager Rick Menchaca; Ken Wilfong of WideLite; Dottie Sims of the Chamber of Commerce; Mayor Susan Narvaiz; city council members Pam Couch, Kim Porterfield and Fred Terry; Mitsie Benton of the Chamber of Commerce; and Renate Yanity of Sights & Sounds board and city staff member.
