Texas State sophomore running back Karrington Bush was named the Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week as voted by the league’s information directors. It marks the first time this season that Bush has been named the Southland Conference player of the week and he is the fourth Bobcat to earn the honor in 2008.Bush averaged 35.99 yards on five kickoff returns in the 38-35 overtime win at Sam Houston State the clinched the Southland Conference championship. The Whitewright, Texas native registered the longest kickoff return of his career and first touchdown on a kickoff return when he returned a kick 79 yards in the third quarter to pull Texas State to within 28-20 after Sam Houston opened the second half with a touchdown run. He finished the game with 284 all-purpose yards after gaining 97 yards rushing on 14 carries and catching one pass for 8 yards.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player.
