Polar Bear Plunge to benefit United Way of Hays County

From United Way of Hays County

To get in the holiday giving spirit, put on your warmest swimsuit, come down to Sewell Park and jump in the San Marcos River, for the benefit of United Way of Hays County. Cabana Beach Apartments is sponsoring the First Annual Polar Bear Plunge at 5 p.m. Dec. 1 in Sewell Park.

“One of our other properties up North has hosted a Polar Bear Plunge for years and it has become a fun, annual event benefiting a local charity,” said Salvador Ramirez, Residential Life Director at Cabana Beach Apartments.  “This is a great way for us to give back to the San Marcos community and we couldn’t think of a better organization than the United Way of Hays County to give to as they serve so many of the Hays County residents.”

Participants of the Polar Bear Plunge will be asked to give a five-dollar donation prior to jumping in the river.  Those who may not have such a thick skin but are still committed to helping their neighbors during the holiday season can give a $10 donation to not have to plunge in the frigid water. Immediately following the plunge, Mochas & Javas, Texas Pie Company, Wal-Mart of San Marcos and Wal-Mart of Buda will provide hot beverages and cookies to warm everyone back up.

“On December 1, we’ll be freezin’ for a reason…United Way of Hays County,” said Earl Moseley, United Way of Hays County board member and Coordinator for Campus Activities at Texas State University. “This event will be a way for a different, younger crowd to support our organization and have a great time with friends and Hays County community members as well.”
