Interstate closure planned for utility installation

From the city of San Marcos

A section of Interstate 35 in San Marcos will be closed for brief periods Sunday, Nov. 23, beginning at 7 a.m. while San Marcos Electric Utility installs an overhead primary electrical crossing in the 2800 block of South I-35 near the 202 mile marker.

Both north and southbound lanes of I-35 will be closed for about 10 minutes at different times to allow electric crews to install the electrical wires across the highway. The work is expected to be completed by noon Sunday. Entrance ramps near the 202 mile marker also will be closed while the work is being done.

Traffic control personnel will install temporary signs along the north and southbound frontage roads to alert motorists of the construction. Highway message boards will also be used to inform motorists of the traffic slowdown.

Local drivers are advised to seek alternate routes around the construction area to avoid being inconvenienced. San Marcos Police will have officers on I-35 to handle the traffic delays. For information, call the San Marcos Electric Utility at 393-8313.
