The Texas State volleyball team placed four of its top players on the Southland All-Conference teams. Jessica Weynand led the way, as she was just shy of being named player of the year. This is the most players that Texas State has had on the team since 2004, when they also placed four players to the all-conference list.Weynand, a sophomore outside hitter from Brenham, Texas earned a spot on the SLC first team. This is Weynand’s first nod. So far this season she leads the team in kills with 342 and is second in digs with 313.
Emily Jones Wilkes, a senior middle blocker from Arlington, Texas was named to the SLC first team as well. This is Jones Wilkes first time being voted to an all-conference team. She leads the Bobcats in blocks with 82 and has the second highest hitting percentage on the team with .343.
Amy Weigle, a senior middle blocker from Arlington as well, is making her second-straight appearance on the SLC first team. Weigle, holds the highest hitting percentage on the team with .366 and is first in hitting percentage in the league in conference-only play. She is second on the team in blocks with 63 and she has 162 kills so far this season.
Lawrencia Brown, an Austin native, is a four-time all SLC selection, earning second team honors for the third straight year. During her freshman campaign she was named to the third team. Brown leads Texas State in digs with 332 and is second on the team in kills with 269.
Receiving honorable mention for the Bobcats is sophomore setter Brittany Collins. Collins is Texas State’s starting setter and is the Bobcats only player to have played every set this season. She leads the team in assists with 752 and has 254 digs on the season.
Texas State will enter the SLC Tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Bobcats will play Northwestern State in the first round on Friday, Nov. 21 at 4:00pm at Johnson Coliseum in Nacogdoches, Texas, hosted by Stephen F. Austin.
