Head coach Ricci Woodard and the Texas State softball staff had seven players sign a National Letter of Intent, announced today. The group will join the Bobcats in 2010, after completing their stellar high school careers from standout high school programs around Texas.Brooke Baker, a third baseman/outfielder was one of seven players to sign an NLI with the Bobcats. Baker, who is from Houston, Texas, will come to Texas State from James Taylor High School. At James Taylor, Baker has received many honors including, Honorable mention All-District in 2006, Academic All-District in 2006, Second-team All-District in 2007, First-team All-District in 2008, Third-Team All-Greater Houston area in 2008 and team captain in 2008. Baker also played travel ball with the Texas Storm DeMarini Gold.
“Brooke has to be one of the fastest players in the state of Texas right now,” said Woodard. “We are expecting her to come to Texas State and break all the records for stolen bases.”
Next up on the signing list is Anna Hernandez, a local player from Buda, Texas. Hernandez hails from Hays High School, where she was a 2006 and 2007 All-Academic selection. During her sophomore season her team qualified for the district playoffs. She plays travel ball with Texas Impact Gold and was a member of her high school basketball team.
“An all around local athlete that’s played with one of the top travel ball teams in the state,” added Woodard. “We know we can put her anywhere and she’ll be great at it.”
Shelby Carnline, a third baseman/shortstop from for Splendora High School in Splendora, Texas is the third Bobcat signee for the 2009-10 recruiting class. Carnline was named to the All-Academic team from 2006-08. She was a 2007 First-team All-District honoree, 2008 First-team All-County and 2008 All-American Scholar Athlete. She plays travel ball with the Texas Eclipse Gold.
“Shelby is a great third baseman/shortstop who will come in to help us immediately,” said Woodard. “She not only works hard but she has a true understanding for the game.”
Haley Lemons, a first baseman from Rockwall, Texas and Rockwall High School will be another addition to the recruiting class. Lemons was named 2006 District 12-5A Newcomer of the Year, 2006 All-Area Newcomer of the Year, 2007 Co-Offensive Player of the Year District 10-5A, 2007 First team All-District, 2008 Offensive Player of the Year-District 10-5A, 2008 Second team All-Area, while her team was a 2008 5A Region II quarterfinalists. She plays travel ball with the Texas Heat Gold and is a member of her high school’s basketball team.
“Haley is a hitter in every sense of the word,” said Woodard. “She’s a true lefty that can hit hard to any side of the field.”
Anne Marie Taylor, a left-handed pitcher from Houston, Texas and Waltrip High School will be an addition to the Bobcat pitching staff. Taylor has been team captain of her program from 2006-08. She was named District 26-4A Newcomer of the Year and 2006-08 First-team All-District. Her team was named the 2006-08 District 26-4A Champions and were 2007 Region III 4A quarterfinalists. Taylor is a member of the Texas Storm DeMarini Gold travel team with other Bobcat signee Brooke Baker. Taylor was also a Second-team All-District selection in volleyball.
“Don’t let Anne Marie’s size fool you,” said Woodard. “She can throw hard and her balls have speed. Her presence on the mound will be a great addition to our battery.”
Macie Hair, is another two-position player that will be added to the Bobcat signing class. Hair is a catcher/first baseman from Leander, Texas and Vista Ridge High School. At Vista Ridge, Hair also lettered all four years in volleyball. She is also a member of the Texas Blaze Gold travel team.
“Macie is another local talent that will be a great addition behind the plate. Macie is quick back there with an amazing arm.”
Jessica Savage will round out the 2009-10 Bobcat recruiting class. Savage is a second baseman who hails from Alvin, Texas, where she is a member of the Alvin High School softball team. She was named to the 2006 and 2007 All-Academic team, earned the 2007 Co-Offensive MVP Award, 2007 District 23-5A Newcomer of the Year and 2007 and 2008 First-team All-District. In 2008 she earned Second-team All-County, Second-team All-Greater Houston, UIL 5A All-Tournament team and TSWA 5A First-team All-State. In 2007, her team won the district and area championships and in 2008 they became the District 5A State Champions.
“Jessica has natural talent that shows in all her accomplishments,” said Woodard. “She plays a smooth 2B and she hits effortlessly.”
