Bobcats to finish soccer season with shot at league title

STAFF REPORT

Texas State goes to the end of its regular women’s soccer season this weekend with a clear chance to win the Southland Conference title, but the Bobcats will be playing from behind.

The Bobcats lost their league lead last week with a 1-1 tie at Texas-San Antonio on Oct. 26. Texas State came from behind, then couldn’t convert late chances to ride out of San Antonio with a victory.

Texas State now is 9-3-4 overall and, more important, 5-0-2 in the Southland Conference. McNeese State, which tied Texas State earlier in the season, surpassed the Bobcats with wins last week of 6-1 over Nicholls State and 1-0 over Southeastern Louisiana.

Britney Curry netted Texas State’s game-tying goal in San Antonio from 15 yards out at 66:55. The goal put Curry at ten for the season, pushing her one ahead of last year’s total and putting her third on the school’s all-time list for most goals in a single season.

The Bobcats had their chances to win it late, including three straight corner kicks. In overtime, the Bobcats took the first three shots. None of them entered the net.

In an even game, Texas State and UTSA each took 11 shots on goal.

The Bobcats will finish their regular season at home, playing Friday against Northwestern State (7 p.m.) and next Sunday against Central Arkansas (1 p.m.). Following the regular season, the Bobcats will go to the Southland Conference Tournament starting Nov. 6 in Lake Charles, LA.
