McClellan headlines Texas State’s Mass Communication Week

Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan, author of What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception, will headline Mass Communication Week events at Texas State University Oct. 20-23.

McClellan, who worked closely with President George W. Bush during his stint at the White House, will deliver the keynote address Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the LBJ Student Center teaching theater on campus. A book signing will follow. The event is free and open to the public.

Heloise, the Helpful Hints columnist and Texas State alumna, will headline Mass Communication Week at the Round Rock Higher Education Center. Her presentation, “What Form of Communication is Best? From E-mail to Snail Mail,” will be Monday, Oct. 20 at 10:30 a.m.

Mass Communication Week is sponsored by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. This year’s event, “Red, White & You: Freedom to Communicate,” will examine the role of media in politics.

Sessions include:

  • Political attack ads: From LBJ to the present
  • Targeting multicultural audiences in elections
  • Covering a presidential family: Lady Bird and the Johnson family
  • Covering politics: Traditional vs. new media
