Man killed on railroad tracks in city park

A San Marcos man died after he was struck by a Union Pacific freight train near Childrens Park in San Marcos at 9:48 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7.

David Perez, 43, of San Marcos died at Central Texas Medical Center after he was struck. Train personnel said that Perez was lying on the tracks on the railroad bridge over the San Marcos River and did not move as the train approached, police said.

Emergency personnel transported the victim to Central Texas Medical Center where he later died. Justice of the Peace Margie Hernandez has ordered an autopsy. Union Pacific is investigating the death and officials there could not be immediately reached.
