The women’s soccer team at Texas State will return home this weekend after notching a win and a tie in their first two Southland Conference games of the year last weekend.
Texas State’s Britney Curry won the league’s offensive player of the week honor for scoring four goals in her two games, including her first career hat trick during a 4-0 win at Lamar on Oct. 5. The Bobcats tied McNeese State, 2-2, two days earlier at McNeese, bringing themselves to 5-3-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the league.
Curry scored the first Bobcats’ goal at Lamar just 9:04 into the game. Late in the game, Texas State expanded its lead with three goals in a five-minute period, including two by Curry and one by Erica Michaud.
The McNeese game didn’t go so smoothly, as the Bobcats fought into double overtime for the fifth time this season and came out with a tie.
Down 1-0 in the second half, Texas State tied the game on an unassisted goal by Reagan McNutt. McNeese scored the next goal for a 2-1 lead, but Curry tied the game in the 85th minute.
“When we woke up, we were all over them,” Texas State coach Kat Conner said. “It took a while for us to break through, but we just kept at it and we came out with a goal.”
The Bobcats tried seven shots in overtime, compared with one for McNeese.
