The Texas State volleyball team is 1-1 in the Southland Conference after splitting their first two league matches of the season last weekend. The Bobcats are 11-13 overall.
The Bobcats won their league opener in Corpus Christi on Sept. 26, sweeping Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in three sets (25-10, 25-19 and 25-21). Emily Jones Wilkes led the Bobcats with 12 kills and five blocks, while Jessica Weynand finished with 11 kills and seven digs. Brittany Collins made 34 assists, topping 30 for the third time this season.
Texas State lost on Sept. 27 at Texas-San Antonio, 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-23 and 20-25). The match was closely contested, with UTSA taking the upper hand and a 2-1 lead with its two-point win in the third set. Weynand and Collins both double-doubled for the Bobcats. Weynand notched 15 kills and 15 digs, while Collins reached 21 assists and 18 digs. Lawrencia Brown finished with 14 kills and nine digs.
The Bobcats will play their first Southland Conference home match Thursday night, when Sam Houston State visits Strahan Coliseum (7 p.m.) The Bobcats will play Lamar Saturday at Strahan Coliseum with a 2 p.m. start.Email | Print
