Every September over 60,000 people flock to Zilker Park for a music festival like none other. This year, the San Marcos Mercury will be there to keep you up on the latest from in the park.
The 2008 Austin City Limits Music Festival kicks off Friday and boasts one of the best lineups in years. Some of today’s highlights include former Talking Heads front man David Byrne (AT&T stage 6:30), British electropop band: Hotchip (AT&T Blueroom 5:30), Hip Hop Pioneers: N.E.R.D (AMD 6:30), Indie/Folk Artist: M. Ward (WaMu 4:30), “indie music’s most blogged about band”: Yeasayer (Dell 1:30), Austin’s own: What Made Milwaukee Famous (AT&T Blue Room 1:30), Louis XIV (Austin Ventures 2:50), Mates of State (Austin Ventures 5:15), “one of Texas music’s hottest artist”: The Eli Young Band (Austin Ventures 6:30), Vampire Weekend (AMD 2:30).
The main headliners for Friday night are The Mars Volta (AMD 8:15) and Manu Chao (AT&T 8:30), both of which I highly recommend…In case you missed the show at Stubb’s last night, I suggest you at least stop by to see Manu Chao in what has been claimed to be “one of his last American performances”.
After you’re done at Zilker Park, check out some of the after shows downtown:
Cool Kids, Voxtrot and Belaire at The Mohawk (912 Red River, 8pm); Red Leaves, Pompeii, Quiet Company, The Noise Revival Orchestra at Scoot Inn (1308 E 4th St, 9pm); DJ sets from CSS w/special guests (Beauty Bar: E 7th St., 9pm).
Also, I’ll have interviews, video and audio clips plus much more, so be sure to check regularly. For more straight from the source visit the official ACL website: http://www.aclfestival.com
Now get some rest and gear up for a long weekend!
