Fall Programs at the Nature Center

Native Landscaping: Jennifer Matthews from Texas State University will be giving a presentation on Native Plant Landscaping at the San Marcos Nature Center, located at 430 Riverside Drive. Jennifer will discuss how to landscape a garden and which plants are native to Central Texas. The gardens located behind the Nature Center offer many examples, and we will be happy to give you a tour. The program will be on Thursday, September 25, at 6:00pm. The program fee is $3.00. Please call the Parks and Recreation office at 393-8400 for more information.All About Basil: Terri Loe, a Hays County Master Gardener, will present the many uses for basil, including cooking and aromatherapy! We will have examples to share and fun things to experiment with. The program is offered at the San Marcos Nature Center on Tuesday, September 30, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. The program fee is $5.00. Fall Art: Have fun at the San Marcos Nature Center making decorations for this fall and Halloween, including pumpkin candle holders and candy corn vases! The Fall Art program is offered on Thursday, October 2, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm; the fee is $5.00 per person. Please call 393-8400 to register, or call Julie at 393-8448 for more information.

Tea Party With Mom: Now that the weather is cooling down, please join us for a tea party in the gardens at the San Marcos Nature Center. We will be serving light refreshments before enjoying some games and crafts. The San Marcos Nature Center is located at 430 Riverside Drive, and the tea party will be on Saturday, October 4, from 10:00am to 11:00am. The program fee is $5.00. 20th Annual Fall River Cleanup: Please join us for this annual event on the San Marcos River! You can walk the bank, take one of the provided canoes, or just jump in to help collect trash. Breakfast tacos and coffee are provided in the morning, and after cleaning enjoy a free lunch and some music. Meet at the Lion’s Club Toob Rental at 170 Bobcat Drive at 9:00am on Saturday, October 11. Please call the Parks and Recreation office at 393-8400 for more information.

Exploring Bats: Fun for the whole family at the San Marcos Nature Center! Learn about the importance of bats to the environment, and how interesting these creatures are! Dottie Barns will give us a lively presentation on Thursday, October 16, from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Program fee is $5.00 per person.
