The freshman white team hit the road up Texas 183 in search for a big win and that was what they got as they cruised to an easy 36-7 win over the winless Badgers.
The team scored often and at ease under the direction of Quarterback Adrian Narvaiz, the team made few mistakes and ran at ease in the first half. The team scored first with a Phillip Machado at the 7:03 mark of the first quarter. The two-point conversion by Santiago Soto was no good as the team led 6-0. Jeremy Alvarez would intercept the Badgers Gabe Myles on their next play and run in for a 26-yard touchdown after an Aubrey Oswalt deep kickoff. The two-point pass was no good but the team extended their lead to 12-0 not even halfway into the first quarter.
Jorge Avilez and Will O’Brien led all blockers and opened big holes and kept the Badger runners and quarterbacks at bay throughout the game.
Christian Zamarron would score on a 7-yard run, the PAT would fail but the Rattlers led 18-0 with 4.9 seconds left in the first quarter.
The Badgers scored with Chauncey Cuffie cutting the ball in from the 4-yard line with 3:39 until halftime. The kick by Emmanuel Lopez was good as the Badgers closed the gap to 18-7.
The Rattlers wasted no time getting those points back as Phillip Machado scored on a 6-yard touchdown to push the lead to 24-7 after another failed two-point conversion with 22.1 seconds until halftime. The lead held up to start the third quarter.
Last week’s hero Brandon Limon got into the act as scampered in for a 3-yard score and the Rattlers lead increased to 30-7. The team started to make several substitutions and all played as the game was in the bag early.
Quarterback Aubrey Oswalt scored on a 9-yard touchdown sweep only to have it called back by a hold but Armando Arzola would take it in for a score from three yards out and the Rattlers took home the win.
Coach Perez said postgame, “We have given up 19 points in three games, that’s pretty good. When we play great defense the offense is easy.”
The Freshman White Rattlers record now stands at 2-1 and next week they travel to Austin Regents to take on the Knights.
