A late rally for the Texas State volleyball team came up short in a 3-1 to visiting Baylor Tuesday night at Strahan Coliseum.
The match was tied, 1-1, after two sets, but Baylor won the next two sets, dropping the Bobcats to 3-1 this season.
Down 2-1 in sets, Shelbi Irvin served seven straight points for Texas State, forcing a 20-20 tie in the fourth set. The Bobcats eventually went ahead, 26-25, in that set, but eventually lost.
Jessica Weynand led the Texas State attack with 11 kills and seven digs.
“It was a very, very disappointing loss,” Texas State coach Karen Chisum said. “We came out with no energy tonight. The atmosphere was there tonight and we let them (fans) down tonight. It’s a big, disappointing loss for Texas State volleyball, I believe, and for the fans.”
The Bobcats finished with their lowest hitting percentage of the season with .080. The Texas State defense did not record a block until the fourth set, which may have hurt them in the earlier sets.
Texas State will hit the road this weekend and play a two-day tournament at the University of Arizona. The Sheraton Four Points Arizona Invitational will run from Sept. 5-6. The Bobcats will play Arizona, Texas Tech and Santa Clara during the course of the tournament.Email | Print
