Saul Gonzales withdrew as a candidate for San Marcos City Council, Place Three, in the afternoon of Friday, August 29. The deadline to remove a name from the ballot was Friday, August 29, at 5:00 p.m. Mr. Gonzales said
My decision to withdraw my candidacy for a city council seat was just as difficult as my decision to file for a seat in the first place. I hesitated to file when many people asked me to run after Daniel Guerrero withdrew his candidacy. I have been employed at CTMC for many years. I have a wife and four kids, the youngest is in the sixth grade. I know from my terms on the Planning and Zoning Commission that public service requires a certain amount of dedication and sacrifice. My only concern was making sure that a well qualified leader would uphold this position with honor and integrity.
I told people that I would run only if I thought there was no qualified candidate who was concerned about our community in the race. No one had filed for Place Three when I filed for that position Monday morning. I did not know that Fred Terry was going to be a candidate for Place Three when I filed for it. Fred and I were colleagues on the Planning and Zoning Commission for five years. I think Fred will be fair and do a good job for the community.
I appreciate all the support people have showed me these last couple of weeks. I hope to be able to serve our community in the future. Thank you.
