Though Hays is the odds on favorite to win the District 17-4A football race this year, the Rebels were the only district team to lose a Zero Week game.
While the Rebels fell, 34-27 in overtime at Bastrop, their school district rival Lehman won 43-28 at Riesel. The night revealed a single-game scoring record for Lehman, which scored only 47 points all last year and only 51 in its 2006 inaugural season. The previous Lehman scoring record came in a 53-24 loss to Travis on Sept. 8. 2006.
Friday night marks the first time Lehman won and Hays lost on the same night. However, it’s not the first time that happened in the same week. Hays lost, 28-10, to Cedar Park on Sept. 14, 2006, then Lehman beat San Antonio Edison, 22-17, the next night.
In other games this week involving District 17-4A teams:

Lockhart beat LaGrange, 29-14, behind 150 rushing yards by Dominique Hardaway and 146 more for Zach Leija. Each scored a touchdown.
Manor won its opener, 20-13 against Lampasas at Victoria.
