From Central Texas Medical Center
On Sept. 4, Central Texas Medical Center’s facility on Wonder World Drive will celebrate its 25th birthday with a different kind of party. Instead of balloons and party hats, there will be shovels and hard hats as CTMC breaks ground on the $35 million expansion scheduled for completion in early 2010.
“This is going to be a momentous day for us,” said president and chief executive officer Gary Jepson. “I couldn’t be more proud of what this hospital has done or feel more privileged about what our expansion will allow us to do. The groundbreaking ceremony is going to be a magnificent way to celebrate our past and future.”
The ceremony will be highlighted by the creation of a time capsule, which will contain memorabilia provided by those in attendance and various news clippings and commemorative materials. One special guest at the event will be the first baby delivered at CTMC, Diana Armand, and her family. Armand’s mother was transferred to the Wonder World location on September 4, 1983 and gave birth only hours after the hospital’s doors were open to the public.
“I feel honored to be recognized at this event,” said Diana Armand. “CTMC has provided such great care for so long; I can only imagine what this expansion is going to do for the community.”Other special participants scheduled to take part in the milestone event include CTMC’s longest-tenured employee, longest-tenured volunteer, several physicians who have practicing at CTMC for 25 years or more and several city and county dignitaries including San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz.
The 64,000 square foot expansion project, which is slated to open in early 2010, will include a new Childbirth Center, a Level II Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU), a new cardiac telemetry inpatient nursing unit, and an expansion and renovation of the facility’s surgical suites. Upon completion, CTMC will grow to a 139-bed facility with all private rooms.
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Thursday, September 4 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the site of the expansion project, behind the Professional Office Building of Central Texas Medical Center. All members of the community are invited to take part in the festivities. If you have any questions or would like more information, please call Tabitha Walsh at (512) 753-3676 or visit www.ctmc.org .
