The Texas State University Retired Faculty and Staff Association (RFSA) will host its first fall social and scholarship fundraiser for members and guests Friday, Sept. 19 at the Pecan Grove at Aquarena Center.
Participants can take tours of the wetland area, River Systems Institute and Aquarena Center facilities beginning at 5 p.m. Prior to dinner, a brief overview of future plans for Aquarena Center area will be presented.
Tickets to the event – which will include steaks cooked by RFSA committee members, along with “sides” and adult beverages – are on sale for $12 each. Tickets must be reserved in advance. The final ticket purchase deadline is Sept. 8. For more information, please see the Retired Faculty and Staff Association website at http://www.txstate.edu/rfsa/ or call President Marianne Reese at 353-5569.
Proceeds from the social will be used to establish an RFSA Scholarship Fund at Texas State. Sponsors contributing to the event include A+ Federal Credit Union.
RFSA was launched in the summer of 2006 when a group of 15 or so retirees met to consider ways to improve communication between retirees and the university and each other and to enhance their quality of life. The founding members adopted a constitution and elected officers at its first annual business meeting in April 2008.
The organization currently has more than 140 members and aspires to represent the more than 725 Texas State retirees and widowed spouses and to include them in all its activities. Fifty percent of these retirees live in San Marcos and over 80 percent live in Central Texas.
