San Marcos, Texas – The Bluebonnet Lions Club recently presented a check to Combined Community Action Senior Nutrition Program.
According to Judy Aswell, Fundraising Project Chairman for the Bluebonnet Lions, “Money raised through community fundraisers such as our upcoming Annual Fall Pecan Sale and Thankful Turkey 5K Run/Walk help support pressing needs in our community. Lion members thank everyone who supports our fundraising efforts. You are truly helping Lions make a difference in our community.”
Amid the hardship and belt-tightening created by higher energy and gasoline prices this summer, many people have been forced to streamline and trim their budgets and expenses. Many charitable donations and volunteer services have been drastically curtailed.
One local service that has experienced a severe impact is the Combined Community Action Senior Nutrition Program. Each day volunteers and staff arrive at four sites in Hays County to serve and deliver meals to elderly and homebound seniors. These volunteers come from all walks of life; religious leaders, young mothers with families of their own, business owners and employees on their lunch hour, students working for community service hours and many senior citizens on a fixed income. The work of these volunteers is done freely and unconditionally but the cost of volunteering has become an increasing hardship for some of them. As a result, the number of meals delivered is reduced or in some cases, service has to be eliminated.
Helen Snow, Operations Manager says “CCA is dedicated to seeing that no senior goes hungry. Providing fragile neighbors with the security and dignity needed to remain independent and healthy is our privilege.” Adaptations are made when funds and volunteers are in short supply, but it is not always beneficial to the program or the seniors served. In times of need and crisis, neighbors are called on to assist neighbors for the benefit of all the community. Please call CCA today to donate or volunteer. (800)333-6325.
