The Greater Rotary Club of San Marcos held a general assembly meeting on Friday at the Salt Grass Restaurant in San Marcos. The meeting was led by President Diane Laumer.
The group recognized visitors from Newstreamz.com, Peter Bain, Rob Rodriquez and Steve Vittorini from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Vittorini shared with the group that they are involved with chapel for the Texas State University football team and also at San Marcos Baptist Academy.
The group put final touches on providing medical and school supplies for children in Mexico. They will meet on September 5th at the Police Department Auditorium and will pack over two hundred packets for needy children across the border.
Laumer talked to the group about the upcoming golf tournament on October 11th, the group will release more information later on how to become more involved. Scott Yarborough from Benchmark Insurance will head up the golf tournament committee. The event entitled Scramble for Scholarship will be the major fundraiser for the Greater Rotary group this year. The group nominated Ryan Branigan for chairman to secure hole sponsors for the well attended annual event.
Diane Laumer said, “We have given thousands for scholarships from this event and we need the community to get behind us.”
The Greater Rotarians will host speaker Dr. Jairo Bermudez next week and Chris Baker will present Nathan Macias on September 5, 2008.
Ron Brown discussed about the coming need for volunteers at the Cock House luncheon on October 3rd. The group will supply deserts, and other goodies.
