Air-filled cloudy water is safe

The cloudy or milky white-appearing water that some City of San Marcos customers are experiencing after main breaks is safe to drink, utility officials said today.

“This condition is the result of air being entrapped in the water during main breaks the system has had,” said Jon Clack, Assistant Director of the Water/ Wastewater Utility. “The water is safe to drink.”

Utility personnel will be flushing lines in several areas to remove the air today. Water samples taken this morning have shown the condition is improving.

The system has experienced several main breaks recently, including a major 12-inch line last Wednesday that caused low pressure and water outages for about a quarter of city customers for several hours.
