The Texas State football team pleased head coach Brad Wright in its first week of the 2008 fall camp as the Bobcats prepare to open the 2008 season against Angelo State on August 30.
“I saw a lot of effort this week, and that makes me feel good because you can fix a lot of things with a good, strong effort,” Wright said. “I was glad to see that everyone picked up where we ended last spring and that our summer conditioning program was good. We showed up in better shape than we have in a while around here.”
One day after practicing in full pads for the first time, the Bobcats ended their first week with two practices Saturday. Texas State worked out on Jim Wacker Field at Bobcat Stadium Saturday morning before returning to the Texas State football practice fields for an afternoon practice as temperatures climbed up into the upper 90s.
Saturday’s morning workout marked the third time this week that the Bobcats have practiced on their home field. They also practiced Tuesday and Thursday nights there to avoid summer school class conflicts.
Following Saturday’s two practices, the Bobcats will not practice Sunday. They are scheduled to return to two-a-day workouts on Monday morning and will also have two practices on both Wednesday and Friday. Texas State will have single practices on Tuesday and Thursday before holding its first intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, August 16.
The Angelo State game kicks off at 6:00 p.m. on August 30, but there will be plenty of entertainment provided by Reckless Kelly in Bobcat Alley as part of the tail-gating festivities before a 6:00 p.m. kickoff. In addition, the first 5,000 students attending the game with receive a free T-Shirt that is being provided by HEB, the University Bookstore, CASO and NTSO.
