San Marcos is more than beautiful rivers, education, and good neighbors. It is also the businesses that make up the economy of our city.

These businesses are owned and/or operated by our neighbors and often overlooked in the mainstream media. We sent out questionnaires to dozens of companies in San Marcos and the surrounding areas and will feature a new one each week. If you would like your company featured on an upcoming Business Spotlight, shoot an email to chris@newstreamz.com with your fax number and we will send you a questionnaire.

Ernie’s Paint and Body owner, Ernie Valdez, and his sons and managers, Ernie III and Paul, are celebrating twenty five years of service in San Marcos. The doors of the shop opened in June of 1987.

Ernie and his family are strongly tied to the community. He has lived all his life in San Marcos, has served as chairperson of the Optimist Club, is a member of both the Chamber of Commerce and the Hispanic Chamber, and is on the board of the Salvation Army.

Ernie’s is a paint and body shop, but it is more. The shop offers laser wheel alignments, frame alignments and a mechanic-on-duty, Nick Blevins.

Nick has equipment and skills to diagnose and service a car’s problems, bumper-to-bumper, except for automatic transmissions-and he can at least diagnose and refer problems of most transmissions. He has worked for Ernie for six years.

The shop is listed with Certified First Network Auto Body Repair, meeting requirements that satisfy insurance company standards.

When asked, “What makes your business unique?” Ernie responds, “Reasonable prices and good quality service. We offer the kind of service you don’t get much anymore-an old-time, full-service-gas-station type of service.” Their business tagline, “Take it to Ernie’s” reflects this personal, hometown touch.
