San Marcos man dies in Hunter Road wreck

A San Marcos man was killed and his passenger seriously injured early Sunday, July 20 when the truck they were traveling in struck a tree in the 1800 block of Hunter Road near Wonder World Drive.

Mark Villarreal, 29, was driving the vehicle when it left the roadway and struck a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Margie Hernandez. Judge Hernandez has ordered an autopsy.

Derek Arredondo, 20, also from San Marcos , was a passenger in the vehicle. Arredondo was transported to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin by San Marcos-Hays County EMS with serious injuries.

Members of the San Marcos Police Department Collision Investigation Team responded to the scene and are continuing their investigation into the wreck.
