Police Chief Howard E. Williams wants residents alarmed by traffic stops and the presence of SWAT at Thompson’s Islands on Tuesday to know that nothing major was unfolding.
Officers yesterday were checking inspection stickers and registrations at the city park on the San Marcos River, Williams said, while the joint city-county SWAT team was training along the river nearby. Numerous residents and media reported the activity and thought a manhunt of some kind was underway.
“It was just coincidence. The traffic guys didn’t know the SWAT guys were going to be there and the SWAT guys didn’t know the traffic guys were going to be there,” Williams said.
