A 45-year old San Marcos man was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, at the intersection of Highway 123 and County Road 266.
The name of the victim has been withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
According to police, a 2002 Ford SUV driving westbound on Highway 123 by Mathew Espinoza, age 17, of Kyle, collided with the victim’s 1999 Honda Civic traveling southbound on Old Bastrop Highway (County Road 266.)
Police said Espinoza ran the red light at the intersection and collided with the victim’s vehicle. The Collision Investigation Team of the San Marcos Police Department is continuing its investigation into the fatal wreck and charges may be filed.
Justice of the Peace Joanne Prado pronounced the man dead at the scene.
