SLU’s Knavs named Student-Athlete of the Year
FRISCO – Texas State senior women’s tennis player Ali Gulida was one of six student-athletes named to the Capital One Academic All-Southland Conference Women’s Tennis First Team, league offices announced Monday.
Southeastern Louisiana’s Nina Knavs was named the Student-Athlete of the Year. The Lions also led all schools in total selections on the two Academic All-SLC teams with four.
Gulida, who carries a 3.8 GPA in marketing with a Latin American business certificate, is a 2008 Arthur Ashe nominee and was an Oak Farms Dairy Cream of the Crop award winner in 2006 and 2007 who also made the Dean’s List four times.
On the court, she posted a 10-7 overall record and 6-3 SLC mark in singles play to rank second on the Bobcats in wins for the 2008 season. Gulida was also named the 2007 SLC Newcomer of the Year.
The all-academic team honors student-athletes who were selected all-conference and/or named as a national all-academic recipient this year while also earning at least a 3.00 grade point average. Student-athletes must have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s competition. The student-athlete of the year is annually presented to the individual in each conference sport who achieves excellence in academics and athletics. Nominees shall have earned at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average to go along with superior athletics achievement.
