Series wins in baseball and softball helped lead Texas State to the first-ever I-35 Maroon vs. Orange Rivalry Series presented by IBC Bank title over UTSA as the Bobcats wrapped up the 2007-08 seasons with a 33-17 victory.

Texas State clinched the series trophy with a strong showing at the SLC Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships. The Bobcat women won the team title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament while the men placed second behind Lamar in Texas State’s best finish in nearly a decade. Texas State received two points from each team’s finish to extend its lead in the Rivalry Series to 27-13 and wrap up the trophy.

Two points were awarded to the winning school in each sport’s head-to-head competition between Texas State and UTSA throughout the year, and a bonus point was also awarded for a road win. For sports without head-to-head regular season competitions like golf and track, the team that finished higher at the Southland Conference championship received two points. Four points were also awarded to the series winner of both baseball and softball.

The original concept of a rivalry series trophy was developed over 10 years ago for the winner of the men’s basketball series between Texas State and UTSA, but the idea was expanded prior to the 2007-08 season to cover every varsity sport played by both schools.

A regular season sweep by the Bobcat volleyball team and road wins by men’s and women’s basketball and women’s tennis also played key roles in Texas State claiming the I-35 Rivalry Series. Texas State also earned series points in women’s indoor and outdoor track and field and women’s cross country.

A complete breakdown of the Rivalry Series points for 2007-08 can be found on the main page of txstatebobcats.com by clicking the I-35 Rivalry Series logo. To find a San Marcos or San Antonio IBC Bank location visit IBC.com.
