Konecki named new Travis Elementary principal

STAFF REPORTS

Niki Konecki, a San Marcos CISD administrator since 2005, has been named principal of Travis Elementary School. The district’s school board voted Monday to name Konecki to the job after former Travis principal Cynthia Pavia requested a reassignment to an administrative position in the Teaching and Learning Department.

“I am privileged to work in a dynamic district with a vision of excellence for every student. I bring a high level of energy to the campus and a commitment to supporting district programs that expect high levels of performance from all members of the Travis community,” Konecki said in a written statement.

Konecki current serves as as the district’s bilingual/ESL program and innovative projects coordinator. She previously was a secondary and elementary bilingual ESL instructional specialist for Galena Park ISD, an adjunct at San Jacinto College North, and a fourth-grade bilingual/ESL teacher for Galena Park ISD.

Konecki earned her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and elementary education from Stephen F. Austin State University and her Master’s of Education in Administration and Supervision with Principal Certification from the University of Houston.

Since coming to San Marcos, Konecki gained national attention as part of the team who piloted instructional iPods in the Newcomer Academies at Goodnight Junior High and San Marcos High School. The educational iPods helped English language learners comprehend their new language more efficiently. The learning iPods programs have now been expanded to include Special Education students.

Pavia is completing the school year at Travis before Konecki takes over this summer.
