Bobcats Enter Post-Season Tournament as No. 3 Seed

Texas State will face Texas-Arlington

Frisco, TX – The Southland Conference officially announced the first-round pairings for the post-season tournament in Huntsville Monday morning. The double-elimination event will be held at Don Sanders Stadium on the campus of Sam Houston State beginning May 21-24.

The Texas State Bobcats will make its 13th consecutive SLC tournament appearance this weekend and will look to claim its first tournament title since 2000 when they take on No. 6 Texas-Arlington in the first round. First pitch is slated for 9 a.m.

The Bobcats won two of three games against West Division rival Texas-San Antonio to clinch the third seed and UTA will enter the tournament after a one year absence from the post-season. Texas State currently leads the active conference teams with three tournament titles.

With a first-round victory, Texas State will play the winner of a Lamar/Southeastern Louisiana match-up Thursday at 4 p.m. However, with a loss the Bobcats will take on the loser of the contest at 9 a.m. Thursday.

For the second consecutive season the UTSA Roadrunners have clinched the top spot in the Southland Conference Tournament. The Roadrunners locked up the number one seed defeating Nicholls State, 5-2 on Sunday, May 11, marking the program’s second regular-season title in school history, and the first team to win consecutive titles since Lamar in 2003-04. UTSA will face eighth-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the opening round at 4 p.m.

After winning consecutive SLC East Division crowns, the Cardinals make their eighth straight appearance in the conference post season tournament as the second seed and will face number seven seed SLU in game two at 12 p.m.

Tournament host and defending champion Sam Houston State (No. 4 seed) returns from an NCAA Regional finals appearance in 2007. The Bearkats will take on five seed Northwestern State, whom they swept in the regular season. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
