EDITOR’S NOTE: More than two dozen people are running for the board of the Pedernales Electric Cooperative after the member-owned utility’s mounting problems led its management to open up the nominating process. The San Marcos Mercury is printing correspondence and commentary in our new Pedernales Electric channel in the Community Blogs section.
Friends and Neighbors,
I don’t know how familiar you are with the recent turmoil concerning some of the past business practices of our electric power provider, Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) and its Board members. However, what is most important to all of us customers (members) now that the legal proceedings appear resolved is that, for the first time ever, the PEC Board Members will be elected solely by ballots submitted by the members (no proxys). Very soon, you will receive a ballot in your mail that you can mark and return (you can also vote on-line at the PEC site shown below).
I am running for the District 6 Advisory Board position and would greatly appreciate your vote. There are over 220,000 PEC members over a huge area and it is impossible to reach them by traditional means in the short time available. With this in mind, I ask that you forward this message along with your recommendation to as many of your friends and neighbors who are PEC members as possible. I’ve included a link below to the PEC Area map for your convenience.
You know me and the values that I hold dear. I’ve lived in this community for 27 years and run a small business here. I want to make sure that we maintain our high quality of life and get the most value and dependability out of the services we depend on. One of my immediate concerns is that what we’re seeing at the gas pumps is likely coming to our electric meters soon. More than ever before, it is critically important to elect to the PEC Board good people who will fight for our members’ best interests. With my years of experience as an entrepreneur and, more recently, as a governmental watchdog, I have the drive, talent, and expertise to represent our interests well.
I would very much appreciate it if you would mark your ballot for me and return it ASAP. Ask your friends and neighbors to do the same.
