Texas State University honored 23 of its student-athletes who received academic rings during a special ceremony on May 10 in the Sac-N-Pac room inside the End Zone Complex at Bobcat Stadium. The tri-annual program is held in conjunction with graduation commencement exercises at Texas State.
The Bobcat Athletics Foundation Academic Ring symbolizes excellence on the playing field as well as the classroom. The criteria for receiving the ring includes 1)receiving a “T” letter from the Athletics Department; 2) completing NCAA eligibility at Texas State and 3) earning a bachelor’s degree within one year after their eligibility expired.
Since the inception of the program in May 1986, 747 student-athletes have received the Bobcat Club Athletics Foundation Ring. This spring’s recipients included baseball players Luke Cannon (Exercise & Sports Science/Crandall, Texas) and Cody Merrell (Exercise & Sports Science/ Perryton, Texas);; football players Phillip Alexander (Accounting/Giddings, Texas), Justin Boren (Exercise & Sports Science/Grapevine, Texas), Daniel Jolly (Political Science/San Antonio, Texas), Chris MacDonald (Applied Arts/Mesa, Ariz.), Chase Pulliam (Exercise & Sports Science /Wylie, Texas) and Tyrone Scott (Criminal Justice/Houston, Texas); men’s basketball player Brandon Thomas (Exercise & Sports Science/ Pflugerville, Texas); men’s golfers David Drake (Mass Communication/Laredo, Texas) and Cole Lewis (Management/Austin, Texas); track and field’s Kevin Galbreath (International Studies/Boerne, Texas); women’s soccer players Laura Burden (Interdisciplinary Studies: EC-4/San Antonio, Texas), Kristy Collison (Radiation Therapy/Katy, Texas), Elyse Ehlinger (Exercise & Sports Science/Plano, Texas) and Delayna Spivey (Exercise & Sports Science /San Antonio, Texas); softball players Heather Ackley (Exercise & Sports Science/ Alvin, Texas), Jill Kloesel (Athletic Training-Pre Physical Therapy/Weimar, Texas) and Haley Koop (Recreational Administration/Waxahachie, Texas); Ashley Stark (Athletic Training-Pre Physical Therapy/Corpus Christi, Texas) from women’s volleyball, women’s basketball players Erica Putnam (Psychology/Eagle River, Alaska) and Elyse Wright (Communication Studies/Colorado Springs, Colorado) along with women’s track and field athlete Camilla Davis (Exercise and Sports Science/Palacios, Texas).
