Softball Hosts 2008 SLC Tournament May 8-10

Regular season champs earn tournament No. 1 seed

After winning the regular season title for the first time since 2002, the Texas State softball team (37-18, 25-5 SLC) will be the No. 1 seed and tournament host in the 2008 Southland Conference Tournament that runs May 8-10 in San Marcos.

The Bobcats earned byes for the tournament’s first two rounds and advances automatically to the semifinals on Friday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m. Texas-Arlington (27-21, 20-10 SLC) also advances through the first two rounds after finishing second in the regular season due to a tie-breaker edge over UTSA (25-24, 20-10 SLC).

The tournament begins Thursday at 11 a.m. with No. 5 McNeese State (22-35, 15-14 SLC) taking on No. 8 Southeastern Louisiana (27-24, 14-15 SLC). At 1:30 p.m. the other first round game begins with No. 6 Nicholls State (28-27, 15-14 SLC) playing Sam Houston State (30-30, 15-15 SLC).

Game one’s winner will then play again at 4 p.m. Thursday against No. 4 Stephen F. Austin (33-23, 18-11 SLC) in one quarterfinal while the day’s final game will pit the No. 3 Roadrunners against the winner of Nicholls State and Sam Houston State.

Friday action kicks off at 4 p.m. with Texas-Arlington playing in its semifinal game, and Texas State will take to the field at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

The 2008 Southland Conference Tournament Championship Game will start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 10.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the Texas State Ticket Office at 512-245-2272 or in person at the softball field. Day passes are $10 while All-Tournament passes are $25.

Parking for the tournament will primarily be in the football west parking lot of Bobcat Stadium due to Texas State Commencement. The lot is located behind HEB and can be accessed from Aquarena Springs or by turning onto Robbie Lane from Thorpe.
