The end came quickly for the San Marcos High School softball team this weekend as the Rattlers lost a two-game sweep to San Antonio O’Connor at Seguin.
The Rattlers ended their season 21-10 following losses of 5-1 Friday night and 2-1 Saturday. O’Connor moves on with a 26-7 record to play Austin Bowie in the third round of playoffs.
Defensive lapses cost the Rattlers in the first game. Two consecutive errors in the fifth inning opened the gates for two O’Connor runs, breaking a 1-1 tie and giving the Panthers a 3-1 lead. The Rattlers couldn’t put together any more offense against O’Connor pitcher Meagan Ramirez and went to Saturday needing to sweep two games.
But the Rattlers couldn’t survive the first game, a 2-1 loss.
San Marcos qualified for the second round of the playoffs a week earlier with a 12-3 win against Converse Judson.
