A San Marcos High School student is headed to the National Forensic League’s national competition after winning first place in two divisions at a district tournament this weekend. David FisherDavid Fisher, a senior, won the international extemporaneous speaking and the original oratory contests over students from an area encompassing Central Texas and the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

High school speech and debate coach Lacye Odam said, “The competition was incredibly tough, allowing only two students to advance to the next level: nationals. Winning two events is rare, and David beat out some power-house teams.”

The national competition will be held in Las Vegas this year. Last year, Fisher competed at the national tournament in Wichita, Kansas.
