Students and administrators of the San Marcos CISD Pathfinder Learning Center joined other community organizations who observed Child Abuse Awareness Month by posting 1,600 pink and blue cut-outs on the lawn of the Hays County Courthouse on Friday, April 11, 2008. The paper cut-outs represented a Hays County child who suffered abuse or neglect in 2007, according to Child Protective Services. Officials added that the 1,600 were “reported” cases, with many more suspected as unreported. Pathfinder Principal Bea Flores said the Pathfinder students wanted to help with the project as a service to the community and to help make more people award of the issues of child abuse and neglect.
