‘Cats move to 10-9 overall, 7-3 in SLC

SAN MARCOSThe Texas State women’s tennis team (10-9, 7-3 SLC) saw its five match winning streak come to an end with a 7-0 loss to Southeastern Louisiana (18-2, 9-0 SLC) on Sunday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.

The Bobcats were swept in the doubles point despite close matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Ali Gulida and Mackenzie Farmer lost in an 8-7 tiebreaker at No. 3 after Ashley Ellis and Lainy Chafitz suffered a tough 8-6 loss in the second spot.

The Lions then took control in singles, taking all six matches in straight sets. Ali Gulida put up a close fight in the No. 4 match with a 6-3, 7-6 loss to Jana Simurkova, but Texas State could not gain a foothold in the other matches.

An injury to Rabea Hartmann, who entered the day 10-1 in singles play on the year and one of the anchors at the No. 2 position, also forced Texas State to shuffle its lineup, giving Southeastern an edge in the match.

Texas State closes out its 2008 regular season at home on Saturday, Apr. 18, at 10 a.m. against Texas-Arlington.
