Texas State falls to the 12th Ranked Longhorns 5-3

ROUND ROCK –  The Texas State Bobcats (17-11) made a comeback bid but fell just a little short and lost to the 12th ranked Texas Longhorns (22-10), 5-3 Tuesday night at the Dell Diamond.  The Bobcats were outhit on the night 11-6 but scored 3 runs in the last two innings to make things interesting.  UT head coach Augie Garrido notched his 500th career win with the victory.   This was the second meeting this year between these two teams. The Bobcats were able to pull off a 4-3 victory back in October.  

Pitcher Mike Hart started the game and got the Longhorns out in order after walking the first batter.  The Bobcats also got a leadoff walk in the first inning but hit into a double play to end the inning.  Zack Boles took over the pitching duties starting the second inning and got the UT batters out in order.  Texas State went down in order in their half of the second and got one runner on due to an error in the third.  Texas finally got the scoring going on a 2 run home run by their second baseman.  The Bobcats were not able to get anything going from the plate in the fourth and fifth innings going down in order both times.  Texas put up 2 more runs in their half of the fifth to extend their lead to 4-0.  The Bobcats started to warm up in the sixth but stranded two runners.  The Longhorns followed that by scoring another run on 3 hits to make the score 5-0 after six innings.   Texas State hit into another double play to end their seventh inning.  Pitcher Aaron Taylor struck out three Longhorns to end the UT seventh inning.  The ‘Cats finally got on the board in the eighth by putting up 2 runs on 3 hits.   Ellitott Babcock greeted the new Longhorn pitcher with a double down the right field line.  Two batters later, Thomas Field doubled down the right field line to bring him in.  Another two batters later, Laurn Randell doubled to plate Field.   The score after eight inning was 5-2.  Texas failed to score in the eighth after getting a leadoff single.  Lance Loftin helped the Bobcats close the gap in the 9th when he hit a 1 out double to right center.  He then advanced to third and finally went home on two wild pitches to make the score 5-3.  The last Bobcat batter grounded out to end the game. 

The Bobcats will host the Houston Cougars Wednesday night at Bobcat Field beginning at  6:30 p.m.
