Texas State University alumnus, Darren B. Casey, was on hand Wednesday for the dedication of the athletic complex that bears his name. In March of this year, Casey pledged a $1.3 million donation, $1 million of which will support the Department of Athletics. His contribution will be used to begin Phase 1 of the new Baseball/Softball Complex. Casey, a 1981 Business Administration graduate, is the president of Darren Casey Interests, Inc. and Baxter Southwest Corporate Real Estate.
Texas State President Dr. Denise M. Trauth said, “Darren is leaving a legacy for Texas State University. Texas State prepared him for life and now he is giving back to Texas State University.”
The complex, which opened in 2002, houses the department’s athletics director office, along with all of the administrative offices from facilities, marketing, compliance, business operations, tickets, sports information and the Bobcat Club.
Casey noted during the press conference,” This is a special day for me at Texas State, I think it is important to give back to our kids, future, and state. I want to open the doors so we can take Texas State to the next level.”
Local business woman and General Manager of Tanger Outlets, D. Michelle Cartswell said, “This is positive for the university, it is a very admirable thing to do for today’s youth.”
Several city and state officials were on hand, included were San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz and City Councilman Chris Jones.
Texas State University Athletic Director Dr. Larry Teis addressed Casey, “This gift will make a difference for Texas State and you have provided leadership for Texas State.”
Casey also threw out the first pitch of the baseball game for the Bobcats versus the University of Houston.
