SAN MARCOS – The weather did not cooperate for Texas States baseball series with Northern Illinois.  The Bobcats were originally scheduled to play a four game series against the Huskies beginning Friday but snowy conditions delayed NIU.  The Texas Tech Red Raiders had the same type of issue since their weekend series with the University of Illinois was canceled.  The schedule was quickly put together and the Bobcats, Huskies and Red Raiders all agreed to play a 3 team round robin over the weekend.  That worked out well until Monday when the game between Texas State and Texas Tech was called due to rain.  The Bobcats did get 3 games in despite the weather and got a W in all three games.  The ‘Cats won game one over Northern Illinois 3-1 when Mike Hart struck out 11 Husky batters and Jerry Cervantes batted in the game winning run.  In game 2 against the Red Raiders from Texas Tech, P Steven Siers gave up only 1 run in 7 innings on the mound and Jonathan Farrow hit a three run homer to win 14-3.  Game 3 was a rematch against Northern Illinois.  Pitcher Zach Tritz pitched 7 solid innings to get the win and Thomas Field hit for the cycle in the Bobcats 16-5 victory.

Game one saw the Bobcats jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning.  Laurn Randell drew a two-out walk and then scored on Jonathan Farrow’s single.  Northern Illinois only managed to scatter 4 hits after 6 innings of play.  In the Bobcat half of the 6th, the ‘Cats struck for 2 more runs to make the score 3-0.  Paul Goldschmidt got things rolling when hit got on with a 2 out single.  Ben Theriot pushed him over to 3rd when he reached on an error by the Husky second baseman.  Jerry Cervantes followed with a double to right field to score them both.  NIU finally managed to score in the 7th to tighten things up a 3-1.  The Huskies stranded two runners in the 8th and Josh Walter earned his 2nd save of the season by sitting NIU down in order in the 9th to seal the victory.  Pitcher Mike Hart pitched 7 strong innings only giving up 6 hits and 1 earned run. He also struck out 11 batters (tied his career high) while earning his first win of the season.  Cervantes led the team offensively going 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.  The Huskies had 7 hits compared to the Bobcats 5 but committed four errors.
