SAN MARCOS – Playing their final game as a Bobcat, seniors Brent Holder, Matt Fullenwider and Brandon Thomas led Texas State (13-16, 6-10) to victory Saturday afternoon. The ‘Cats came from behind in the 2nd half to beat UT Arlington (18-11, 7-9) at Strahan Coliseum, 97-86. The seniors combined for 39 points in the victory. Earlier this season at Texas Hall in Arlington, the Mavericks had a 99-81 victory over the Bobcats.
Both teams shot over 50% from the floor in the 1st half. UTA hit 18 of 29 shots (52.1%) while Texas State made 16 of 30 (53.3%). They also hit over 50% of their 3-point shots. UTA hit 6 of 12 (50%) and the Bobcats hit an amazing 11 of 19 shots from beyond the arc (57.9%). Holder led the team in scoring with 15 points. He hit on 4 of 7 of his long range shots for the half. Dylan Moseley contributed 12 points and Ryan White dished out 5 assist. The score at halftime was all tied up at 49 apiece.
The Mavericks opened the 2nd half with a 15-3 run to take a 64-52 lead with 15:16 remaining. The Bobcats worked on getting the score down and eventually tied the game at 78 with only 4:55 left in the game. The last time the score was tied was at the 2:52 mark with the teams locked at 81. After that the ‘Cats outscored the Mavericks 16-5 down the stretch to win 97-86. Brandon Bush led the Texas State in the 2nd half with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
For the game, Texas State scored 40 points off of turnovers vs. UTA’s 16 points. The Mavericks committed 26 turnovers in the game. The Bobcats bench also outscored UTA 50-28. Holder led the Bobcats with 20 points, while Fullenwider added 11 points and Thomas had 8 points and 2 steals while playing the final game of their collegiate careers.
