C.S. Lewis expert to speak at Texas State


Internationally-renowned C. S. Lewis scholar Jerry Root will present a public lectured titled “The Communication Genius of C.S. Lewis” at 12:30 p.m. March 4 at Texas State University.

The lecture, sponsored by the Department of Communication Studies, will be presented in Centennial Hall room GO2. The lecture is free and open to the public.

C.S. Lewis is the author of such popular books as The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe from the Chronicles of Narnia series, The Screwtape Letters, Mere Christianity, as well as Prince Caspian, which will be released as a major motion picture from the Walt Disney Studios in May.

Root is on the faculty at Wheaton College , Wheaton , Ill. , and is the co-author of one of the best-selling reference books on C.S. Lewis titled The Quotable Lewis.  The Wade Center at Wheaton College houses one of the largest C.S. Lewis research centers in the world. Root recently presented a series of lectures in Oxford , England at C.S. Lewis’s former home, the Kilns.

Root’s topic at Texas State , “The Communication Genius of C.S. Lewis,” will explore why, 45 years after his death, Lewis and his works remain so popular.  Department of Communication Studies Chair Steven Beebe, who teaches a course on C.S. Lewis from a communication perspective, said, “This is a wonderful opportunity to explore the writing and wisdom of C. S. Lewis.”
